About the Author
Stewart C. Myers is the Gordon Y Billard Professor of Finance at MIT’s Sloan School of Management. He is past president of the American Finance Association and a research associate of the National Bureau of Economic Research. His research has focused on financing decisions, valuation methods, the cost of capital, and financial aspects of government regulation of business. Dr. Myers is a director of The Brattle Group, Inc., and is active as a financial consultant. He is also the author (with Professor Brealey) of this book’s sister text, Principles of Corporate Finance.
Alan J. Marcus is a Professor of Finance in the Wallace E. Carroll School of Management at Boston College. His main research interests are in derivatives and securities markets. He is co-author (with Zvi Bodie and Alex Kane) of the texts Investments and Essentials of Investments. Professor Marcus has served as a research fellow at the National Bureau of Economic Research. Professor Marcus also spent two years at Freddie Mac, where he helped to develop mortgage pricing and credit risk models. He currently serves on the Research Foundation Advisory Board of the CFA Institute.
Richard A. Brealey is a Professor of Finance at the London Business School. He is the former president of the European Finance Association and a former director of the American Finance Association. He is a fellow of the British Academy and has served as a special adviser to the Governor of the Bank of England and as director of a number of financial institutions. Professor Brealey is also the author (with Professor Myers) of this book’s sister text, Principles of Corporate Finance.

Major Glitches in ebook Software

DO NOT RENT THE EBOOK FOR YOU COMPUTER!!!I rented this text as an ebook from Amazon for $85 and ended up having to purchase the textbook as well because it was so glitchy it was not usable for assignments or even reading. I downloaded the book onto my laptop instead of buying the text to save money but this was a HUGE mistake. The Kindle program would completely crash every 10 to 25 minutes and I could not go back and forth between Excel spread sheets to do homework or have both windows up side by side. I am very upset I can not get a refund for my rental even though it is defective and unusable. I hope nobody else, especially poor college students make the same mistake I did.

Not thorough enough to prepare for work in Connect Plus

This text book seems to explain things in a straightforward enough fashion until logging onto Connect Plus for the homework. The homework has extra steps and variables that are not presented in the text. There are some extra explanatory presentations in the Connect Plus online software, but they are not adequate. Not all the steps are explained and many presentations are ridiculously complex. I asked for help on one of the initial presentations that I had been watching for 15 minutes and received a better explanation of what was being demonstrated in all of 5 seconds. Another question I asked a friend who is a Finance professional to explain to me. She had no clue what they were talking about. I waste a ridiculous amount of time each week trying to find out how to do what the text/Connect Plus fumbles to explain.
Most finance professionals rely on Excel and Excel is barely touched upon. There are some spreadsheets available for download, but they are woefully inadequate and not very helpful. Because of this more time is lost fumbling to find what spreadsheets are needed and how to set them up. Excel spreadsheets are an essential part of Finance and it is shameful that they are not more fully covered here to prepare students for the profession.
The text also does not adequately prepare for the exams. I studied for several hours, felt like I understood what was being presented and ready to take the exam only to find many questions that do not seem to have come from the text. Clear explanations are needed, the text and the online software need to cover the same information in a straightforward way, and the exam needs to correspond more fully with the text.

I can't believe this book!

I should have read the reviews first before making my brother to buy this ebook for $200! It was horrible horrible long and it takes so much time to find out where the definitions and phrases in the book locate! For non-english learner like me, reading something like this takes effort and time, especially when I have a test, and the teacher at my finance class can't teach me this major in English, It is becoming a nightmare for me. Have anyone had done clarifying defenitions and important information in each chapter of this book? I really need it for my exam next week. I'm very nervous and scared since I'm new to this finance thing! what a waste of money and time, please please help!
