About the Author
Richard S. Grayson is Senior Lecturer in British and Irish Politics at Goldsmiths, University of London, UK. Former Director of Policy for the Liberal Democrats, he was Charles Kennedy's principal speechwriter. He lives in Hemel Hempstead, UK.

Nice overview, lacking heart

This book provides a useful history of modern British politics, from the early 1900's to today, which is helpful in understanding how the two/three major parties came to resemble what they are today. It also gives a somewhat clunky overview of how the government actually works, the nuts and bolts of white papers and bill passings, but one that I think is a bit muddled and confusing, and one that definitely lacks in capturing the spirit of British government, which is at times humorous, passionate, and maddening, all at the same time.
An OK beginners guide, but could use improvement to be useful to real students of British government.
