Longman's costly oversights

This book is excellent, as are all the Toeic books that Longman publishes. One shortcoming is strident, however, and that is the absence of tapescripts at the back of the book. I can only postulate that this omission is designed to stop the Toeic aspirant from cheating, but it certainly makes the acquisition of this set of Toeic material both costly and cumbersome.

Not up to date as I would have liked

Tried using this as the primary textbook for a conversational English class at church and found out that it is best used to supplement other teaching methods. Its does provide a thorough covering of conversational English but many of the words are no longer used (at least in this generation). Even the slang words were not as up to date as I would have liked but we were able to contextualize some of the phrases as being more appropriate to different age groups. In the end, I still use this to determine a topic for each week, such as "Making Friends" or "Expressing Forgiveness" but then either develop my own lessons or use many of the free ESL worksheets and activites available online.

In my view, this book can be very useful for these non-native English speakers who need to make their English more conversational and more American.Perhaps it is good to be complemented by listening experience - in the impossibility of a real conversational partner You tube, films, audio conversations may suffice.

The Go-To Book for Guinea Pigs

My 18 year old daughter recently bought 2 'pigs' and she said this book alone answered her questions better-and more enjoyably- than others she'd picked up at the library. This book is not only filled with super cute photos, which is fun, but also useful/helpful information. Favorite chapters are "Good Eating"- what to feed- and not feed!- your guinea pigs; and the "Everyday Life" chapter that explains very well how to set up their home. (Who knew there were so many bedding options- and which ones they like best?!) Excellent book that will keep you informed throughout the life of your 'pig'.

This book was not exactly what I'd hoped for. Though there is a ton of information, I bought it soecifically with the hope of finding out exactly what, and what not to feed my guinea pig, as far as fruits, veggies, etc. and there was not a lot of info on feeding.

A good book for a new guinea pig owner

I bought this book for my 5-year-old granddaughter when she got her new guinea pig, Coconut. We read the chapter headings and looked at the photos together, and then she chose subjects that she wanted me to read to her in greater detail. It contains good information on feeding and care. We especially enjoyed the section on teaching your guinea pig tricks!

John R. W. Stott (1921-2011) has been known worldwide as a preacher, evangelist and communicator of Scripture. For many years he served as rector of All Souls Church in London, where he carried out an effective urban pastoral ministry. A leader among evangelicals in Britain, the United States and around the world, Stott was a principal framer of the landmark Lausanne Covenant (1974). His many books have sold millions of copies around the world and in dozens of languages. Stott's best-known work, Basic Christianity, has sold two million copies and has been translated into more than 60 languages. Other titles include The Cross of Christ, Understanding the Bible, The Contemporary Christian, Evangelical Truth, Issues Facing Christians Today, The Incomparable Christ, Why I Am a Christian and Through the Bible Through the Year, a daily devotional. He has also written eight volumes in The Bible Speaks Today series of New Testament expositions. Whether in the West or in the Two-Thirds World, a hallmark of Stott's ministry has been expository preaching that addresses the hearts and minds of contemporary men and women. Stott was honored by Time magazine in 2005 as one of the "100 Most Influential People in the World" and was named in the Queen’s New Years Honours list as Commander of the Order of the British Empire. Well done; good mix of scholarship and practical meaning

I read all the Titus commentary, but haven't touched yet but a few pages of his 1 Timothy. Stott does a great job here of getting at the meaning. He sees the overall message and organization of the book well, and keeps that in mind when he's expounding particular verses. This is a good commentary for sermon prep (he deals with Greek and with the setting into which Paul wrote these books). It is also, while a touch on the scholarly side for a layman, a very usable and solid commentary to hand to a church member who's leading a Bible study on either one of these books. Any Greek he mentions is translated into English. The only significant weakness is his not-well-supported gutting of the word "submit" of meaning in Titus 2:5.

Not as good as others

I've truly enjoyed the John Stott series - this one is not the greatest of the bunch but is still very serviceable for leading a small group.
