About the Author
CHRISTIAN MAIR is a professor of English linguistics at Albert-Ludwigs-Universit�t Freiburg. While his major research interest is the corpus-based study of change and variation in present- day English, he has always made a point of placing his linguistic activities in a wider context.

He is the author of two widely used introductory handbooks (Englisch f�r Anglisten, 1995; Das heutige Englisch, with Emst Leisi, 1999) and has championed a linguistically based approach to Caribbean cultural studies in numerous articles in journals and contributions to books.

Action, romance, shifters what's not to like?

This was a story of a disgraced physician, Kimberly, who moves to a small town
to get away from the media and big city. Her life is turned around when she
is introduced to Brick and Cole during a medical emergency.
This was an erotic story, with many graphical sexual scenes. There was a story
line that was interesting. A Romance develops between the doctor and Brick.
The ending was happy. There were still a few things that needed to be answered
(probably in the next book) but all the major issues were resolved.
I liked the story. It kept you interested. I think a lot of what Kim did was selfish
and perhaps a bit self satisfying. I did like the characters and enjoyed the read.

For all you shifter fans out there (think Charlaine Harris or Stephenie Meyer [I’ll admit her wolves were amazing!!]), Dee Carney’s Taming her Wolf should be on your to read list! Following a string of murders against the pack’s adolescents, Kim finds herself in the middle of the action when the men break in her office trying to save one of their own. From that point on, readers are immediately thrown into the world of Fire Creek, the sights, the smells, feelings and especially the determination to find out who and why the adolescents are being targeted. There is no time for a breather or a nap or to relax, otherwise you risk missing a critical element that might help you solve the mystery or even give a clue as to why the kids are the targets. The first in the series, Taming her Wolf does not disappoint and being the first time I’ve read a novel written by Dee Carney, I’m glad I did, since I was not disappointed at all.

A gripping start to a fascinating new series

Taming Her Wolf is the first story in the new Fire Creek Shifters series. A fascinating new twist on the shifter is given to us by Ms Carney. These shifters not only have their dominant human plus their wolf – they have a third beast shift as well. The beast is the most primitive and the most dangerous as the beast is only allowed out one night of the month, on the night of the full moon. Every shifter in Fire Creek has a beast, and some are more under control than others. Should a member of the pack go feral and their beast cannot be put under control then the shifter is banished from the pack, for the safety of the pack and surrounding human citizens… or hunted and killed. The beast more resembles the werewolf monster of movies in its primal need to destroy. The human and their wolf live in harmony with the wolf being allowed out whenever the need or desire is there – the beast is shut deep inside… but all three make up a complete person.

Kim and Brick have a sensuous, fiery and very sexual relationship. They will work together to find out why the beast is uncontrollable for Brick and why the attacks from what seems to be a serial killer are directed at the pack’s young, teenage members. The interest, passion and beginning steps of falling in love are apparent to the other pack members – Brick is over the top in doing all he can to claim Kim as his mate. Yet, Brick’s inability to control his beast is becoming known and his friends and his Alpha pack leader will only allow him so much leeway or time to get it under. In a race against time and the coming full moon Brick and Kim will try anything to find a way to keep Brick within the pack.

While Brick is not the Alpha of the pack, have no doubt that this is definitely an alpha male. Kim is tossed into a world that she never knew existed. And while she has questions, fears and concerns she also has secrets as to why she has been banished to this backwoods, small town clinic. Trust for both of them is going to be hard won, but so worth it in the end.

If you enjoy Paranormal Romance, particularly Shifters then you are going to want to get into this series starting at the very beginning. Taming Her Wolf is intense, engaging with a well defined history of the pack and an equally believable reason for the beast in them all. I was deep in the story with only a few pages. Yes, there is world building since this is the first story with a new type of shifter, I completely expected that so it did not take away from the story – it enhanced it and gave me the chance to understand these people, enjoy their story so much more.

I would highly recommend Taming Her Wolf and look forward to the next story in this series.

About the Author
Pauline Hall graduated from the Royal Academy of Music and then taught in schools and privately. Whilst living and teaching in Harrogate she felt the need for a piano tutor which made learning fun, and which progressed at the pace of her slowest learner. She started by writing little tunes in pupils' notebooks, and these formed the basis of Tunes for Ten Fingers; the Piano Time series developed from this.

Quite a good starter book.

Quite a good piano tutor book which I do use but I use it in combination with other books as there isn't really any one perfect tutor book that I have found that has it all. This book appeals to children more and is bright and fresh with some colour drawings in. There are a few 'musical quiz' pages-basic theory without it seeming like you are teaching them theory so it doesn't put them off, they don't find it too technical, it's quite fun for them. The print is a good size, clear without being too large so it doesn't look too 'mickey mouse music-like' for if adults are tackling some of the songs. This newest edition has a few better pieces in than the original one that I had. There are a few basic duets also. Another of Pauline Hall's books I can recommend is Piano Time Carols-this is excellent all the way through the book, lots of well-known carols (solos and duets) and is not too hard or too easy. The arrangements sound quite pleasant and are useful for both adults and children. Both of these books, if fact the whole series, are quite reasonably priced. They aren't too thick so it won't seem like it's taking forever to complete all the book. Another good thing is it will lay flatter than some music books on the music stand and will actually stay open while you are reading the music and performing it-thicker books with spines tend to shut or fall off!

This book is a part of Loving Healing Press' New Horizons In Therapy Series, an excellent and diverse series of self help/personal growth books utilizing a wide array of new techniques and ground breaking works in the field of psychology.

Charles L. Allen takes a look at the how and why of the thought processes that lead us to make both and bad choices and decisions. We all do things we know aren't the right choices for us. We may even think we truly want to make better decisions and we may really make attempts to change. A part of us fights the urge to make those healthier decisions or changes for the better.

The author's premise is that how we make decisions is based on our personal ego. Our ego has an agenda of it's own and that agenda isn't always in our best interests. We need to learn the psychological functioning of our ego and how to overcome or control it. The first thing needed to make changes involves thought and personal reflection. We need to decide just what our priorities and our personal belief system consists of. To resolve issues by a personal belief system creates personal integrity and responsibility.

This author does an outstanding job explaining integrity and how to figure out your personal value system. Each chapter contains great, helpful exercises to assist you on your way. With topics including danger, fear of change and intimacy, handling happiness and more. Several appendixes offer additional assistance to work through discovering personal ethics and values, case studies, a self image inventory, an extensive bibliography and very comprehensive index.

While the book is written at an adult level, I think it would also work great as a guidebook for parents helping kids develop a personal value system. Additionally, counselors/therapists will find it invaluable for working with clients. Outstanding reference!

Assigned text for class, but enjoyed it so much I bought a copy

I was assigned this book as a text for a collection development class. I thought this book provided a very good foundation for the subject; it was clear, straightforward, and easy to read, with the 4 main types of libraries represented. I don't know that I would recommend it for someone who has years of experience in collection development, but if you're new to it, this is a great resource.
